Warts are one of the most common, yet stubborn, skin infections seen in clinic. We have a variety of treatment options available for our patients to get the results they need.
Wart Treatment
Warts on the feet are also known as Verruca Pedis, and are regularly seen in young children and immune compromised individuals. Although anyone at any age can contract this conition.
Topical Acid Therapy
First line treatment options available involve the use of topical application of chemicals. These cause a localised immune response. Depending on the location, severity and medical history of the patient, the podiatrist will customise treatment approach to help.
Options available are:
Silver Nitrate (AgNo3)
Salicylic Acid
Nitric Acid
Phenol
Wart Curettage
In some instances, when our patients have tried almost everything under the sun, to treat their foot warts, with no success, we reserve our surgical removal technique. Wart curettage is were the entire lesion is removed, under local anaesthetic, from the base.
Our Podiatrists frequently use more than one wart treatment to treat these stubborn viral infections. Our success rate works best by a multi modal approach.
Faulkner’s Needling
Using your own bodies immune system to target these lesions is the basis of this treatment.
Anaesthetic is applied
Sterile gauged needle is used
Small, repetitive punctures are made within the lesion
A scar is formed that eventually falls off
