Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave Therapy is a targeted, effective treatment for treatment of chronic musculoskeletal pains and injuries.

It works by generating low frequency radial shockwaves which administers deep tissue reactions to promote healing.

What is Shockwave therapy?

Clinical shockwave is a high energy pressure wave that travels into the tissue layers of the body roughly 4 to 5 cm deep. These pressure waves are created within a handpiece through the use of controlled pressurised air which sends a projectile within a guiding tube that strikes a metal applicator placed on the patient's skin. The kinetic energy is converted into a radial shock wave. The projectile generates stress waves in the applicator that transmit pressure waves into tissue.

What does it treat?

  • Tendinopathies e.g. Achilles tendinitis, Patellar tendinosis

  • Osteoarthritis in larger joints e.g. knee

  • Plantar fasciitis

  • Medial tibial stress syndrome (Shin splints)

  • Greater trochanteric pain syndrome (Hip bursitis)

  • Muscle tears

More focused than manual therapies e.g. Massage; can be used alongside other treatment methods e.g. custom orthotics

Who can benefit?

People experiencing chronic pain due to tendon or muscle injury, and those who have tried other non-invasive treatments with little success e.g. Massage therapy, dry needling, stretching exercises.

Effective at reducing pain with improved recovery times, allowing for an earlier return to sporting activities
