Podiatry and the NDIS

What is NDIS?

The NDIS is a system run by the NDIA (National Disability Insurance Agency). It is a national health funding scheme allowing individuals with complex health conditions to access services to improve, maintain and promote a healthy lifestyle.

How can Podiatrists help participants?

As Podiatrists, we can help individuals with their foot and lower limb health, mobility and independence.

Podiatry and foot care supports are supports to help you treat and manage conditions that affect your feet, ankles and legs.

  • Provide comprehensive assessments of patients leg and foot needs

  • Complete detailed reports advocating for participants to have access to Podiatry and other health services

  • Provide all aspects of Podiatry applicable to the participants needs dependent on their diagnosis and condition

What services are accessible?

Case studies:

  • 9 year old boy with ASD, struggling to "keep up with peers" for sports. Started muscular rehab program coupled with custom orthoses therapy. Now playing soccer weekly and fully participating in sports at school.

  • 70 year old women with epilepsy and vision impairment, provided regular nail and skin care along with orthopedic footwear to reduce pressure on feet.

  • 40 years of age male, quadriplegic and wheel chair bound. Limited use of limbs with parasthesia. Provided with in home podiatry care of skin and nails.
